Pure hydroxyapatite (HA) nano-particles were prepared by the wet chemical method. Sample was prepared without change in the stoichiometric ratio of Ca/P inside the structure of HA. Sample was characterized by different types of techniques such as XRD and FTIR to insure the quality of prepared sample. HA/gelatin disks were prepared and investigated through the swelling as an important physical property. Chosen gravimetric ratios were 20:2, 20:3, 20:4, 20:6, and 20:8 of HA to gelatin. Calculated and measured densities were obtained for all samples. The morphology of the samples was checked by SEM suggesting that the presence of a porous structure of the HA/gelatin composite. This pore structure is responsible for the significant difference between the calculated nominal density (dcalc) and the observed density (dobs). Most swelling of the HA/gelatin disks occurred within 24 hours after exposure to the normal saline solution, and the amount of the swelling varies with the gelatin concentration. Results suggest that after enough time of soaking, the degree of the swelling of HA/gelatin composite increases linearly with respect to the gelatin concentration in the composite
